New Delhi: A move is afoot among members of
the Rajya Sabha to table an impeachment motion against the
Karnatka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran, who is facing
allegations of land grab.
Opposition members have initiated the move, said a
leader, who declined to be identified.
Following the allegations, Justice Dinakaran's elevation
to the Supreme Court has been put on hold and it may not go
through.
The government has also sent back his file to the Supreme
Court Collegium to reconsider its decision to elevate him.
Asked about the development, Congress spokesman Abhishek
Singhvi declined to comment on the move saying the issue has
not come for discussion before the party.
Top jurists like F S Nariman has objected to his
elevation accusing him of judicial impropriety.
Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily on Monday had
told Parliament that "as per existing procedure", Chief
Justice of India will take a decision on allegations against
Dinakaran.
