New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Monday came to the rescue of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Praveen Togadia who has drawn flak for allegedly stating that Muslims shouldn`t be allowed to buy property in Hindu areas.

RSS` Ram Madhav said, "It`s fabricated news. I have checked with him. No Swayamsewak can say all that."

In presence of VHP and Bajrang Dal members in Gujarat`s Bhavnagar town, Togadia on Saturday had reportedly protested against the purchase of a house by a Muslim businessman.

Togadia gave the residents 48 hours to move out of the house, which if not complied with, he suggested taking control of the house and putting a Bajrang Dal board on it, said reports.

He went onto suggest two ways to stop the inter-community purchase of houses — by pressurising state government to bring in Disturbed Areas Act in Bhavnagar, that would prevent inter-community sale of immovable property. And by taking forcible possession of the house and fight a legal battle that could go on for years.

He alleged that elections are the best time to secure the interests of the Hindus.

Togadia`s actions put the police force of Bhavnagar on guard to prevent any mob attack.

These comments drew sharp criticism from parties and on social media with demands that Togadia be reprimanded.

K Rahman Khan of Congress, said, “If Modi has any respect for law then he must ensure arrest of Togadia for his speech in Gujarat.” His party member Rashid Alvi seconded, saying, “Praveen Togadia ka to ilaaj hona chahiye. Unke khilaf sakht se sakht karwahi honi chahiye Strict action must be taken against Praveen Togadia."

JD(U)`s KC Tyagi attributed Togadia`s statement to his `Taliban` bent of mind; while Shiromani Akali Dal leader Naresh Gujral said the matter needed to be taken seriously and added, “Anyone who speaks such language should be arrested and disenfranchised."
