Puttaparthi: In a new twist to the Sri Sathya Sai Baba legacy case, Satyajit – who is believed to be the closest aide of the spiritual guru – has resurfaced after mysteriously disappearing from the scene following the death of Baba on April 24 this year.

The 33-year-old had been Sathya Sai Baba`s caretaker since 2003, when the spiritual leader injured his thigh bone. It is believed that Satyajit stood by Baba during the difficult phase and nursed him.

There was speculation that Satyajit would be the biggest beneficiary of Baba’s legacy. There was even talk of him succeeding Baba as the head of the Satya Sai Central Trust. Such was the intense succession struggle that he mostly remained confined to his room and even asked for police protection.

Controversy dogged Satyajit immediately after Baba’s death. Reports questioned
his actions as a caretaker to Baba. There were accusations that Satyajit did not feed Baba properly and may have even drugged him with sedatives. Doctors, who examined Sathya Sai’s body immediately after his death, neither confirmed nor denied presence of drugs in his body.

On Friday, Satyajit not only made a sudden appearance but also broke his silence. Speaking to newspersons, he said he had nothing to do with the working of the Trust.

Satyajit’s statement comes at a time when there are allegations of money being siphoned off from the coffers of the Sathya Sai Central Trust. There have been instances of money being seized by Andhra Pradesh police and the trail leading to the Trust’s doors.

On June 17, close to Rs 11.56 crore in cash was found in Yajur Mandir, which was Sai Baba`s private chamber at his ashram. 98 kilos of gold and 307 kilos of silver were also found.

Trustees RJ Ratnakar and V Srinivasan have already been served notices over the trust money seized on June 18.

Also on Saturday, several followers of Sathya Sai Baba protested in Puttaparthi against alleged mishandling of Trust`s money by its members.
