Saw tears of joy in Anna`s eyes, says Kiran Bedi after RS passes Lokpal Bill

New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare`s aide and former police officer Kiran Bedi said on Tuesday that the passage of the Lokpal Bill by the Rajya Sabha was a tremendous achievement for the country. She also said that she saw tears in the eyes of Anna after the anti-graft bill got the nod from the Upper House. The former cop posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter – "I saw tears of joy in Anna`s eyes. What an achievement for the country forever! Time will tell what a difference this will bring to the country." The Lokpal Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha today even as the Samajwadi Party walked out from the House as soon as the debate began and boycotted proceedings. Debating in the House, Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal called it a historic day. On the other hand, BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that the government`s mindset had changed because the political situation had changed in the country. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called the passage of the bill by the Upper House as a landmark step. The bill will be taken up by the Lok Sabha tomorrow. Meanwhile, fasting in his native village in Maharashtra to press for the anti-graft bill, Anna thanked the Parliamentarians for passing the bill in the Upper House. However, he said that he will break the fast once the bill is passed by the Lok Sabha too.
