New Delhi: High humidity made life difficult
for the people in north India on Thursday as monsoon rains continue
to elude most parts of the region, including the national
capital.
Punjab and Haryana, which remained mostly dry, witnessed
high humidity ranging between 59 and 82 per cent even as
maximum temperatures fell by a few notches below normal at
some places.
Hisar in Haryana was the hottest place in the two states
with a high of 37.5 degree Celsius, which was one notch below
normal, while Bhiwani settled at a high of 36.4 deg C.
Among other places, Patiala had a high of 34 deg C,
followed by Ambala (33.8) and Amritsar (31.3). Chandigarh
recorded a maximum of 33.6 deg C.
One person was killed and five others injured as
lightning struck them in Badhpura area in Uttar Pradesh`s
Etawah district.
Rivers Yamuna, Sharda and Ghaghra were flowing near
danger mark at some places in the state.
According to a Central Water Commission report, river
Sharda was flowing 15 cm below the danger mark at Paliakala
and was rising, while Ghaghra was near danger mark at Ayodhya
and Turtipar (Ballia). Yamuna was rising in Mathura.
Gorakhpur received 13 cm rainfall since yesterday, while
Siddharth Nagar and Etawah recorded 6 and 5 cm rainfall
respectively.
The weather remained mostly dry in Uttarakhand for the
third consecutive day. The `chardham yatra`, which was
disrupted due to rains last week, was going on smoothly.
Rains lashed some parts of Rajasthan where Ajmer recorded
maximum rainfall of 19.1 mm till evening. Sriganganagar,
Jaipur and Dabok recorded 8.6 mm, 5.2 mm and 1 mm rainfall
respectively.
