New Delhi: The government on Monday decided
to prepare a scheme within two months on the principle of
"economic advantage" as it proposes to set up 2,500 model
schools in public-private-partnership (PPP) mode.
"Today we decided that we will prepare a detailed
scheme on starting schools in PPP. The scheme will be ready in
two months," Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal
said.
The government has decided to set up 6,000 model
schools in the country. While 3,500 schools will be set by the
government, the rest 2,500 will be set up in PPP mode.
"We in the government should not spend more on these
PPP model schools than what we are spending on setting up of
own schools. We must ensure that that the PPP model gives
economic advantage to the government," he told reporters on
the sidelines of a book release function.
The government spends around Rs 3.02 crore on setting
up of Kendriya Vidyalaya.
The Human Resource Development Ministry has been
working on a suitable model for starting these schools in PPP
mode. The ministry had earlier prepared a PPP model while a
different model was suggested by Planning Commission.
The round-table on PPP today discussed the Planning
Commission model. It expressed certain reservation over the
economic model suggested by the Planning Commission.
