Haridwar: About seven lakh pilgrims on Wednesday took a
holy dip in the river Ganga on the last major `snan` (bath)
during the ongoing Mahakumbh.
Seven lakh pilgrims have so far taken bath in the river
Ganga on the occasion of Baishakh Adhimas Purnima,
Superintendent of Police Kumbh Mela Ajay Joshi said.
Amid elaborate security arrangements, sadhus and seers
belonging to all the 13 `akharas` reached Brahmkund of
Har-Ki-Pauri.
Traditionally, sadhus of only Bairagi (Vaishnav) `akharas`
take bath on Baishakh Purnima, but this time representatives
of all the 13 `akharas` together took the holy dip, president
of All India Akhara Parishad Mahant Gyan Das said.
Considering huge rush of pilgrims for the last major
bath, traffic regulations have been put in place. While
heavy vehicles were not allowed to enter Haridwar,
Har-Ki-Pauri has also been declared as "zero zone" for
vehicular traffic.
According to officials, over five crore pilgrims have so far
attended the Mahakumbh, the largest religious congregation.
The three-month-long Mahakumbh culminates on April 30.
