Shanti Bhushan demands resignation of PM, HM

Shanti Bhushan demanded the resignation while claiming that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could have prevented the grant of 2G licences.

New Delhi: Claiming that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could have prevented the grant of 2G licences that caused "huge loss" to the exchequer, Team Anna member
Shanti Bhushan on Monday said he along with Home Minister P
Chidambaram should not be allowed to continue in office.

He said the Supreme Court judgement quashing the grant of
122 2G licences has recorded the finding that this grant at
2001 prices has caused huges losses and it was enough ground
for the nation to ask for the resignation of the Prime
Minister as well as Chidambaram, then Finance Minister.

"It is clear that the Prime Minister came to know of the
facts and could have prevented the grant of licences at 2001
prices. He could have dropped Raja from the government. His
defence that the constraints of coalition politics did not
permit him to intervene is no defence at all.

"This only implies that if he had intervened, his
government might have fallen. The question, therefore, is
whether a Prime Minister is justified in allowing a huge loss
being cause to the country for saving his government and
continuing in office," he said.

Noting that there can only be one answer to this
important question in Parliamentary democracy, he said,
"Neither the Prime Minister nor Chidambaram should be allowed
to continue in office after the Supreme Court judgement."
