Shiv Sena assures BJP support on VP poll

Sena had broken ranks with NDA in the Presidential elections this time claiming support to Pranab Mukherjee was in the national interest.

New Delhi: After parting ways with NDA in the Presidential election, Shiv Sena on Wednesday told BJP that it was with the opposition alliance on the question of Vice Presidential poll.

Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj rang up Sena supremo Bal Thackeray today on the issue and the Sena chief assured her that his party was with NDA, party leader Sanjay Raut said.

Opposition sources said BJP may not put up a Vice Presidential candidate as the numbers are stacked against it. The party is scouting for a candidate from one of the NDA allies or a non-Congress candidate like P A Sangma to come forward.
