New Delhi: Amidst hullabaloo over allegedly abusing and forcing a Muslim catering supervisor at the Maharashtra Sadan to break his Ramzan fast and eat a chapati last week, Shiv Sena MPs on Wednesday defended their act.
Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Raut, who was one of the 11 named in the incident, said whatever happened was part of an agitation and the MPs weren`t aware of the caterer`s religion.
He further accused `corrupt` Congress of trying to give the incident a communal colour.
When he said he`s a rozedar, we stopped, We were feeding him to show the bad quality of food, added Raut.
Another Shiv Sena MP, Anandrao Adsul, also defended the act, saying since food was of poor quality, the MPs asked the attendant to taste and check the quality and they did not know his religion.
Arvind Sawant, meanwhile, refused forcing catering supervisor to eat.
Condemning the facilities at Maharashtra Sadan, Rajan Vichare said the incident should not be given a communal colour.
Leaders of various political outfits cut across party lines have condemned Shiv Sena MPs for allegedly abusing and forcing the Muslim catering supervisor to break his Ramzan fast.
The 11 Shiv Sena MPs named in the complaint are - Sanjay Raut (Rajya Sabha), Anandrao Adsul (Amravati), Rajan Vichare (Thane), Arvind Sawant (Mumbai-South), Hemant Godse (Nashik), Krupal Tumane (Ramtek), Ravindra Gaikwad (Osmanabad), Vinayak Raut (Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg), Shivaji Adhalrao Patil (Shirur), Rahul Shewale (Mumbai-South Central) and Shrikant Shinde (Kalyan).
