Shun the word 'honour': NCW

New Delhi: As a spate of honour killings hog the headlines, National Commission for Women Wednesday made a plea for shunning the term "honour" and coining another suitable term highlighting the heinousness of the crime.

At a meeting with the News Broadcasters Association and the Broadcast Editor's Association, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas made a strong plea for avoiding the term "honour" killing and coining another suitable word which highlights the heinousness of the crime without any element of "honour".

A spate of honour killings have been reported from northern India over he last couple of months, including from the national capital where two such incidents were reported in quick succession this month.

as usual, gv (who represents the government`s attitude) is playing to the gallery and trying to paper over the cracks. everyday, a new law is created (without any aforethought, without putting the proper machinery in place, and without fixing the rampant corruption) just because the government wants to show that it is for law and order. all that the politicians are trying to do is protect their own self-interest, fill their swiss accounts and continue with their attitude of `to hell with the common man`). the way things stand, the government is allowing a lot of people`s honour to be raped and sodomized by allowing false cases/arrests knowing fully well that the cases will drag on for 15-20 years and only the innocent will suffer (because the guilty with political connections will get off scott free within a short time). just think of the huge number of innocents whose honour is being destroyed in india, and what if it turns into an eye for an eye (or as many eyes as the the hands that harmed the innocents).
