SIC fines PIO of MSHRC for giving wrong information

State Information Commission has penalised the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) for giving "wrong and misleading information" to a person who had filed an RTI application.

Mumbai: The State Information Commission has
penalised the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Maharashtra
State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) for giving "wrong and
misleading information" to a person who had filed an RTI
application.

"The SIC is satisfied that the PIO (who is also the
registrar of MSHRC), Neena Kaparde, without checking the file,
gave wrong and misleading information and is liable to be
penalised," Vilas Patil, State Chief Information Commissioner
(SCIC) said in his order.

Patil has ordered that Kaparde will have to pay a fine of
Rs 5000 from her salary.

The SIC was deciding an appeal filed by Pushkar Damle who
had approached it saying though the appellate authority in the
MSHRC directed the PIO to give a copy of an affidavit, the PIO
did not comply with the order.

According to Damle, there was some ongoing dispute
between an advocate Ramnek Parekh and one Smita Thatte.

"When Thatte took my help to resolve the dispute, Parekh
filed a complaint against me with the L T Marg police station
saying that I have threatened to kill him," said Damle.

Further Damle said that he had approached MSHRC after LT
Marg police allegedly called him to the police station and
allegedly threatened him.

"I filed a case with SHRC and Thatte filed an affidavit
supporting my allegations," added Damle.
