Washington: A Sikh student and a standout
athlete died in a road accident in San Jose California in the US when his speeding vehicle smashed into a tree on Sunday morning.

Sukhpreet Singh Grewal, 18, was a two-year varsity
starter at Pioneer High School and earned all-league honors as
a senior.
He was taking classes at De Anza College and recently
told friends he was considering trying out for the junior
college team.

"Tuesday morning, more than 800 people had logged
onto a Facebook page set up to remember Grewal`s life. People
had posted photos of Grewal laughing with friends and playing
basketball for Pioneer," Mercury News reported.
California Highway Patrol reported that Grewal`s GMC
Yukon was "traveling at a high rate of speed".

He was wearing a seat belt, though, the police said.
Community members said Sukhpreet was coming from a
friend`s place when he met with the accident.
