Srinagar: Six persons, including a
photo-journalist, were injured in fresh clashes which broke
out between protesters, demanding the release of youths
arrested on charges of stone-hurling, and the security forces
in parts of Kashmir valley today.
The clashes erupted at Maisuma and adjoining areas in
Srinagar, Baramulla and Sopore towns of north Kashmir as
groups of protestors demanding release of arrested youth
indulged in stone-hurling on police and CRPF.
Officials said six persons, including a scribe, were
injured in the clashes. Police fired teargas shells and used
batons to disperse the protestors.
Imran Ali, a photo-journalist of a local daily, was hit
by a teargas shell in Maisuma and was admitted in SMHS
hospital, sources said.
Normal business was disrupted in Lal Chowk, Hari Singh
High Street, Jehangir Chowk, Regal chowk and Poloview areas of
the city.
Shops and business establishments also remained shut in
Baramulla and Sopore due to the clashes.
