New Delhi: Escalating attack on the main opposition party, BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and his close aide Amit Shah for their alleged involvement in the snooping row, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Thursday said that the buck stops at the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Expressing his comments on social networking website, Digvijay tweeted: “Even Amit Shah has confessed it was done at `Saheb`s instructions. Modi has kept Home with him since 2002! Would Media pl take note of it?”

“Snoopgate of Gujarat why is no one talking about the violation of Telegraph Act and the IT Act? It is Modi where the buck stops not at Amit”

Congress yesterday had said the BJP should change Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, as the saffron party rejected its demand for a probe into "illegal" police watch of a woman allegedly at the behest of his close aide Amit Shah.

The BJP said the matter involving the woman in Gujarat should be put to rest after her father did not want any probe.

Countering the Congress demand for a central probe, the BJP said it was "politically motivated" and wondered why it was insisting on this when the matter was a state subject.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde indicated that security agencies were collecting information on the whole issue and if required a probe could be ordered. "We are collecting information on this and after that we will look into the matter," he told reporters.

Shah, the man at the centre of the controversy, refused any comment when he was repeatedly asked about his stand in Agra where he is overseeing arrangements for a Modi rally to be held later in the week.

NCW asks father to verify letter

The National Commission for Women on Wednesday wrote to the father of the woman, who was allegedly put under illegal surveillance by Gujarat police at the behest of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to confirm the veracity of the letter.

"There is a lot of anonymity in the letter that was reportedly written by the woman`s father. It did not have any e-mail address, telephone or mobile number. We have written back to the postal address in the letter asking the woman`s father to verify if it was written by him," NCW member Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar told a news agency.

She said the Commission has given seven days to the woman`s father to reply.

"Several facts are missing from the letter. We have asked the woman`s father to provide us with more particulars related to the case. The matter is serious as the letter was handed over to a security guard at NCW by an anonymous person last night who handed it over to us today," she said.
