New Delhi: In what can bring in huge embarrassment to the UPA government, Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Friday admitted that some files pertaining to coal blocks allocated from 1993 to 2005 have gone missing.

Reports also suggest that other than the files, recommendations made by Congress MP Vijay Darda forwarded by the Prime Minister’s Office for the Bander block have gone missing.

This comes after, the Supreme Court on August 06 directed the Centre to provide "full co-operation" to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its probe in coal block allocations scam by providing it with all necessary information and files without any delay.

It asked the concerned authority to provide "full cooperation" to the agency and "all files sought by it must have to be supplied at the earliest without any delay".

The bench, also comprising justices Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, passed the order after one of the petitioners alleged the Ministry of Coal was not co-operating with CBI in supplying complete documents.

The apex court would next hear the case August 29. The SC asked the CBI to file three status reports on coal blocks allocation by August 27. Vahanvati strongly resisted the suggestion from the court that in cases monitored by it there was no need for the government`s sanction to proceed against the high ranking officers.
