Sonawane`s funeral held in Nashik Nashik: The last rites of Yashwant Sonawane, the Additional Collector of Malegaon, who was burnt to death on Tuesday allegedly by the persons involved in fuel adulteration near Manmad, were conducted here overnight.

Several government officials were present at the funeral.

Meanwhile, Popat Shinde, the prime suspect who also suffered burn injuries in the gruesome incident, has been shifted to Nashik Civil Hospital.

According to the police, Sonawane (42) was returning from Chandrar village after reviewing the situation there in the wake of a demonstration by onion farmers when he found some people adulterating kerosene in a tanker parked behind Sagar Dhaba at Panewadi.

Sonawane stopped and questioned them. He also called up police. This prompted Shinde and three others to pour kerosene on the official and set him afire. Sonawane died on the spot.

There are oil depots of Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum near Panewadi.

Popat Shinde has two earlier cases in connection with fuel adulteration registered against him.

This is the Nexus of Local Politicians, Custom & Excise Officials, Police Officials,Monster Mafias etc... and the Loot on Govt Oil Depots and Storage is on going from last 30 years in many states. On every Tankers the Looter Share Holders price is fixed. Some time after Looting 70-75% of Stock they put Depots and Storage on fire to show the lost is due to fire. India cannot afford killings of the Honest Whistle Blowers and must stand up to bring this Monster Nexus down. Death penalty must be asked for all convicted, including their `` RING LEADERS ``. I feel very much upset to read such horrifying news. May the martyr’s soul rest in peace and let’s pray for peace to his family.
The Govt and especially the honest police officers must come down heavily with iron hand to smash all kinds of mafias from
our country, also the eye witness(es)who may have seen the incident/killers must come forward bravely to help the police, else one day any other honest officer or person may meet with the same fate at the hands of these mafias. The
crime needs to be nipped in a bud itself before it takes the form of a big flower. Jai Hind

Itis highly deplorable and shameful to the nation
that a honest and courage official is burnt to
death by mafia gang. this is not an isolated
incident in recent times. Various types of mafias are doing such criminal activities at
various parts of the nation. severe action against such mafias is the most important thing
of the hour. while appealing to the authorities
to grant ample compensation the family of the
victim , i may extend my sincere and heartfelt
condolence to brave officials family
