Ahmedabad: While several reports indicated on Tuesday that the Congress has been considering withdrawing support to the newly-formed Aam Aadmi Party, senior Congress leader and close aide of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel said that despite difference in opinions, Congress supports AAP.
As reported, political secretary of Congress president, Patel told the reporters that there are different opinions in any organisation and that they would not effect the party`s decision to support AAP.
He further added, that now since the party has given support to Arvind Kejriwal`s AAP, it hopes that the latter would do a good work.
Earlier, senior leader and party spokesperson, Janardan Dwivedi, showed apprehensions about Congress` decision to support AAP. He said that perhaps the decision was not correct. He further added that may be it would have been better to sit in Opposition.
Dwivedi was second in the row in AICC, after former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, to pass a statement hinting out Congress` intentions to withdraw support to AAP. Dikshit had earlier pointed out that support to AAP was not unconditional. Furthermore, Congress supporters held a demonstration outside the DPCC office on Monday protesting against the party`s decision to support AAP.
The supporters also burnt the effigy of Kejriwal for allegedly calling the party corrupt and leaders as thieves. The party leaders also said they will submit a written memorandum to Rahul Gandhi demanding Congress`s withdrawal of support to AAP.
On the other hand, AAP`s convener Arvind Kejriwal is all set to take over the charge of Delhi as its new Chief Minister and is likely to take oath on December 26 at Ramlila Maidan. As per reports,the CM cabinet will include Somnath Bharti, Manish Sisodia, Girish Soni, Rakhi Birla, Saurabh Bhardwaj and Satyendra Jain.
The AAP, which won 28 seats in the recent assembly elections, had staked claim to form government in Delhi after BJP, the single largest party, refused to form the government citing lack of clear majority.
