In a gesture that could have political implications, Congress President Sonia Gandhi greeted Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on his birthday.

New Delhi: In a gesture that could have political implications, Congress President Sonia Gandhi greeted Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on his birthday on Monday.

Gandhi walked up to Yadav in the Lok Sabha, as soon as he arrived in the House and was about to take his seat. The two exchanged pleasantries briefly.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister AK Antony and Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal also greeted Yadav shortly before the House convened at 11:00 am.
Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Jaswant Singh were also seen greeting the SP chief, who turned 72.
SP has 22 members in the Lok Sabha and extends outside support to the UPA government.
