Sri Lanka Navy rescues distressed Indian fishermen

Colombo: At least four Indian fishermen and a boat distressed off Sri lanka's northern coast have been rescued by the Navy, police said on Friday.

They were rescued at around 10:15 am lcoal time by the Navy in the northern Jaffna islet of Delft.

The Delft police said they would be produced before the Kayts magistrate to obtain an order allowing them to be handed over to Indian High Commission officials.

Meanwhile the police said that the 43 Indian fishermen arrested by the Navy on Wednesday for allegedly violating the International maritime boundary line (IMBL) now await repatration having handed them over to Indian officials.
