Kanpur/Bangalore: The Congress Party on Sunday accused India Against Corruption (IAC) leader activist Arvind Kejriwal of playing politics on the issue of corruption, rather than looking for ways to end it. They demanded that Kejriwal be arrested for disturbing the peace, and law and order.
Senior Congress leader Sri Prakash Jaiswal said in Kanpur: “ “More than finding a solution to the problem of corruption, they (India Against Corruption), is playing politics. Such people should be arrested.”
Jaiswal’s demand for Kejriwal’s arrest came even as activists of the NGO India Against Corruption (IAC) and physically impaired people waved black flags at the Indira Gandhi International Airport against Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid soon after he had arrived from London on Sunday morning, and vowed to continue with their protests over allegations that his NGO – the Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust -- had siphoned off money meant for the disabled.
On Sunday, Khurshid faced protests at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Hundreds of IAC members were seen protesting against him with black flags and posters at different gates of the airport and shouting slogans ‘Salman Khurshid chor hai’ (Salman Khurshid is a thief).
However, before the IAC members could ‘gherao’ Khurshid, officials whisked the minister in a white ambassador car.
Khurshid is to hold a press conference today at 3 pm.
He had earlier denied the allegations levelled by Hindi television channel Aaj Tak and Arvind Kejriwal''s IAC that the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust owned by him and run by his wife Louise was involved in cases of financial misappropriation and forgery.
"I will fight back the allegations with sufficient proof," he told reporters on his arrival in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal has announced an indefinite agitation to demand the resignation and arrest of Khurshid over alleged financial irregularities in his NGO.
The Khurshids’ have come under huge criticism after an Aaj Tak sting operation reported that the Union Social Welfare and Empowerment Ministry had granted Rs. 71.50 lakh to the Khurshids'' NGO for distributing tricycles and hearing aids to the disabled in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In Kanpur, Samajwadi Party leader Ramashray Kushwaha said that Salman Khurshid was the country’s Law Minister, and his position must be respected until his guilt was proven.

“He (Khurshid) is the Law Minister. If any investigation is done, they will get everything clear. The culprit should be punished. If someone appeals in the Samajwadi Party, then, we will surely get an investigation done. You have seen so many investigations are going on already,” said Kushwaha.
Talking specifically about the corruption charges linked to the Congress Party, Kushwaha said: “They commit acts of corruption that are big, why will they do a corruption just for a few lakhs?”
On Arvind Kejriwal’s protests, he said that it was act of “cheap publicity”.
“If he (Kejriwal) is unable to provide evidence (against Khurshid), then, strict action should also be taken against him,” he added.
In Bangalore, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad also spoke on the controversies linked to Khurshid and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra.
While ruling out the need for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Prasad said that an investigation should nevertheless be concucted to ascertain the truth.
“We expect an inquiry and investigation on this issue. He is the Law Minister of India. It is the case of a family trust and a case of forgery. It is very unfortunate that this has (allegedly) happened with the handicapped. The matter should be inquired into. At least, they (the Khurshids’) should have some humanity,” Prasad said.
“It was a trust for poor people. A verification needs to be done,” he added.
On the matter related to Robert Vadra, he said that the Government of Haryana should scrutinize the land deals involving him and realtor DLF
“The entire country demands a fair inquiry of the case.
