New Delhi: As part of its plans to boost
security to PSUs, the government has given a go ahead to
public sector State Trading Corporation (STC) to procure a
large number of sophisticated weapons, including AK rifles,
from global arms suppliers.

The STC today issued the global tender to procure 100
AK-47 rifles, 25 MP-5 gun (MP-5A3) and 25 MP-5 (MP-5K) with
usual accessories for guarding its nine offices in the
country.

The tender has also been floated for five sniper rifles
and 933 Glock 19 Pistol with usual accessories.

The intended suppliers and manufacturers of the weapons
have been asked to submit the tender by November 20 at the STC
office here. The offer of the suppliers should be valid for
acceptance for a period of six months from the date of
quotation.

The intended suppliers have to confirm the country of
origin of the product being offered and submit certificate of
origin duly supported by the Chamber of Commerce as a part of
documents.

The decision was taken as STC, which imports and exports
on the behalf of the Government, commodities including gold
and silver, could have been on terror target.

The weapons could be used either by the existing guards
from para-military forces or private guards likely to be hired
by the STC, official sources said.
