Kochi: Steps have been initiated to strengthen the country's coastal security, Naval Chief Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma said Thursday and expressed optimism that the targets set for the coastal defence would be met.
Addressing a ceremonial parade at the Naval base here, Verma stressed on the need for cooperation from the locals with the navy and other civilian agencies to ensure total
security of the coastal areas.
Stressing on the need to constantly review the training curriculum to keep pace with the evolving security challenges, Admiral Verma, on his first visit to the Southern Naval
Command, said training was the most important peacetime activity.
He later visited the recently established Joint Operations Centre for Coastal Defence where he was briefed on the Coastal Security Architecture of the Kerala Coast. He also addressed the Naval and Coast Guard officers, a Naval press release said.
