New Delhi: Facing flak from various quarters,
the Government today asked everyone to have some patience and
stop "nitpicking" about the preparations for Commonwealth
Games, whose result would be wonderful.
With just 30 days left for the Games extravaganza, Urban
Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said the time now is to
celebrate the "delivery of the Games" and that people of the
country should get exposed to some "positive attitude".
Reddy, who is also Chairman of the Group of Ministers for
the Commonwealth Games, gave an assurance that all projects
related to the event will be ready before the Games start and
that everything will be fine.
"Time has now come to stop nitpicking about the
preparations for the Commonwealth Games and start celebrating
the delivery of the Games," he told a Delhi Metro function
here.
His comments came against the backdrop of Opposition
parties and various organisations blaming the government for
the unfinished games venues and other infrastructure projects
related to the event.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had on Sunday visited the
Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, the venue of the opening and
closing ceremonies of the Games, and asked authorities to
redouble their efforts to complete the unfinished work.
He also said there should be a "flawless" start to the
Games.
The Minister said though criticisms were welcome for
further correction, only negative aspects and unimportant
things should not be highlighted.
"I think it is time for celebrations now. I think the
people of Delhi and India need to get exposed to positive
attitude and start celebrating the Games," he said.
Reddy also appealed to "everyone" including the media to
look at the "positive aspects of the Games and not merely
unimportant and negative aspects."
"All criticisms are welcome for correction. An attempt is
being made in the context of the preparation of games.... it
is not the occasion. Let us celebrate together," he said.
Later, speaking to reporters, Reddy asked "people to show
some patience and games will be wonderful."
"We are closely monitoring every small things (related to
the Commonwealth Games). Please show some patience and the
Games will be wonderful," he said.
He said security personnel would take over the Games
venues from September seven, a week before the arrival of the
first batch of athletes and officials.
