Kolkata: The vice-chancellor and registrator of Jadavpur University were today gheraoed by agitating students as they protested against the conduct of a probe into an alleged case of sexual harassment and molestation of a girl student on its campus.
Police said the students gheraoed VC Souvik Bhattacharya and registrar Pradip Ghosh to protest against the Aug.28 incident inside the campus at a boys' hostel and the delay in the investigation of the same.
The students were continuing with the gherao even as appeals were made for them to lift the same.
A police team is at the spot to prevent any untoward incident and keep a watch on the situation.
The state government appealed to the students to lift the gherao while education minister Partho Chatterjee said, "This is undemocratic, they must lift the gherao and talk with the authorities."
