New Delhi: Discouraging the tendency of some
ministers to push in their proposals before the cabinet at the
last minute, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed his
colleagues to adhere to the seven-day time limit for
submitting their recommendations.
"I have strict instructions from the Prime Minister not to
accept any notes after the scheduled time on the day
prescribed," Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar said in a
letter to secretaries today.
He said the Prime Minister has recently directed that the
list of items proposed for inclusion in the agenda of the
meetings of the Cabinet and Cabinet Committees should be sent
to the PMO well ahead of the meeting.
It has been decided that procedurally correct notes
received only up to one week before the meeting will be
considered for inclusion in the proposed agenda, the letter
said.
Noting that the Cabinet Secretariat continued to receive
requests for consideration of proposals well beyond the time
limits, he said the new drill would ensure that the
Secretariat was not put in an embarrassing situation of not
being in a position to accept any note received later.
