Sujatha Singh takes charge as Foreign Secretary

Sujatha Singh took charge as India’s foreign secretary on Thursday. The 1976 batch Indian Foreign Service officer will have a fixed tenure of two years.

New Delhi: Sujatha Singh took charge as India’s foreign secretary on Thursday. The 1976 batch Indian Foreign Service officer will have a fixed tenure of two years.

Singh, 59, was earlier ambassador to Germany. She succeeds Ranjan Mathai.
Singh, the third woman to head the services after Chokila Iyer and Nirupama Rao, is the daughter of T V Rajeshwar, the former Intelligence Bureau Chief and wife of former Secretary (East) Sanjay Singh.
