Surgeon Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan Assumes Office

Kochi: Surgeon Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan on Thursday assumed responsibilities as the Command Medical Officer (CMO) of Southern Naval Command.
A recipient of Vishisht Seva medal(VSM), Rear Admiral Kannan was commissioned in August 1977 and is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The other notable tenures of the Admiral include Command of the navy hospital INHS Kalyani and Executive Officer of INHS Kalyani and INHS Asvini.
Hailing from a family of high achievers, Rear Admiral Kannan is the spouse of vice Admiral B Kannan. Her only son is serving Captain in the Army Medical Corps. The Admiral`s elder sister is Foreign Secretary, Nirupama Rao.
