Raipur: BJP`s senior leader Sushma Swaraj on Saturday criticised former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s niece Karuna Shukla for calling it quits with BJP.

Sushma, while addressing the media persons, said that Karuna has failed in Agnipariksha (trial by fire). She further added that the latter has held integral posts in the party, but when it was the time to testify her loyalty, she failed.

While resigning from the BJP, Shukla, who was former MP from Janjgir and former member of the undivided Madhya Pradesh Assembly, had said that she was "mentally tortured" by the party in Chhattisgarh.

Although she had completely denied that her resignation from the party had anything to do with seeking a BJP ticket from Beltara seat for Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, yet she maintained that she was continuously neglected by the senior leaders.

She had also rubbished the reports of her plans to join Congress after quitting the BJP.
