Tagore`s Nobel theft case can be reopened: CBI Kolkata: The case relating to the theft of the Nobel medallion of Rabindranath Tagore and other memorabilia in March 2004 could be reopened if more information was received, CBI director Ashwini Kumar said on Saturday.

"CBI has not found sufficient information about the Nobel theft case and so the case had to be closed, but if we get further information the case can be reopened," Kumar said.

"The CBI was given the responsibility of investigating the case but as there was no major breakthrough we had to close the case."

"But, if there is any specific input regarding the theft then we can reopen the case. There is no problem in reopening the case," Kumar said.

The CBI chief noted that the theft of this "priceless treasure" was an unfortunate incident.

The investigating agency had called off its investigation after probing for more than five years into the theft of the Nobel medallion from Rabindra Bhavan museum at Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan.

In a letter to Registrar of the University on August 20 last year, the CBI SP (Special Crime Branch), Kolkata, said that the probe was being closed because of dearth of clues.
