Tatkal ticket rules set to get stricter

Tatkal ticket rules set to get stricter New Delhi: Faced with mounting complaints of misuse of tatkal scheme, Railways are planning to have dedicated counters and separate time slots for selling tatkal tickets.

Plans are afoot to install CCTV cameras at the ticket counters to keep a close watch on tatkal ticket seekers and making e-reservation more fool-proof.

"Besides, we have decided to bar booking clerks from carrying mobile to reservation counters," said Northern Railway General Manager VK Gupta, while other officers said the "character of the tatkal scheme will be changed".

Talking to reporters here, Gupta said separate counters and time slots for tatkal reservation would also be put in place very soon to prevent touts from misusing the scheme.

His comments come a day after the Railway Board reviewed the tatkal scheme, which was introduced to help passengers travelling on emergency. However, there have been increased complaints that passengers have been unable to exploit the scheme properly, thanks to the role of touts.

Despite a number of changes carried out in the scheme in the recent past including reducing the days for reserving tatkal tickets from five to only one day and barring web-based agents from booking tickets during the first hours, touts continued to exploit the scheme, selling tatkal tickets at a premium.

At present, tatkal scheme is available in around 2677 trains which translates to around 1.71 lakh berths. In 2011-12, earning from the scheme stood at Rs 847 crore.

Gupta said CRIS, the IT wing of railways and IRCTC, will audit the tatkal programme to plug the loopholes to check irregularities.

Other measures like allowing reservation of only one ticket from a computer system is also being looked into.

Meanwhile, RPF has posted two special teams to keep a watch on touts crowding booking counters while policing will be stepped up in ticketing offices to arrest unauthorised vendors and the touts.

Even as more than 900 touts have been apprehended over the last one year, Gupta said 100 to 200 touts were caught only in the last couple of weeks due to the stepped up efforts to take on them.

He said steps were also being contemplated for manning of the automatic vending machine at railway platforms.

The whole revamp of tatkal timings and counters is rubbish it will not work, Best way to avoid the choking website and long Q is only one solution .....Change the system so that tatkal tickets can be booked 24 hrs before sheduled time.

SUGGESTION IS THAT ID PROOF SHOULD BE COMPLUSORY FOR ADVANCE GENERAL TICKET BOOKING AS IT IS FOR TATKAL AND ID NUMBER SHOULD ALSO BE PRINTED ON GENERAL TICKET . SUGESSTION 2: ALL TATKAL WL TICKET SHOULD BE CONFIRMED ( IF EVERYBODY COMES TO KNOW THAT ALL WL TATKAL TICKET WILL GET CONFIRMED ,HE WILL NOT PAY EXTRA TO TOUTS FOR CONFIRM TICKET AND THE GENERAL TICKET QUOTA SHOULD BE REDUCED AND TATKAL QUOTA SHOULD BE INCREASED

TWO DIFFERENT TIME FOR TATKAL AND ADVANCE BOOKING WILL ONLY HELP TOUTS BECAUSE FIRST THEY WILL GET TATKAL AND AGAIN THEY WILL STAND IN QUE FOR ADVANCE, BUT THE MAIN PROBLEM THE THAT THE TOUTS BOOK IN ADVANCE GENERAL TICKET IN FAGUE NAMES AND THEN SELL IT TO THE PASSANGER (FOR e.g TOUT HAS 6 PERSON IN A TICKET , IF ONE PERSON WANT 4 TICKET HE WILL GIVE HIM THE ORIGINAL TICKET AND TELL HIM TO TRAVEL BY THOSE FAUGE NAMES AND REMAINING 2 PERSON (6PERSON -4 PERSON) WILL BE GIVEN ZEROX OF THAT ORGINAL TICKET AND THEY WILL ALSO BE TOLD BY TOUTS THAT REMAINING TWO FAUGE NAMESNAMES)

I stood 2 hrs I was 15th in the queue just to get one waiting ticket, in the afternoon time, and during tatkal time in the morning, booking staff clear 15 person in 15 mins. If they dont get money from agent they will take 2 hrs to clear 15 person for tatkal ticket as well, better opt for online ticket instead

timing for tatkal should be from 7 am to 8am.in which 7am to 7.30am should be online and 7.30 to 8am should be 0n counters or 7.30 to 8am both counter and online but total tatkal tickets should be divided into half for counters and online

I don`t understand what is the need of issuing so long waiting lists first. Regarding Tatkal best option would be to give an option to the passenger whether the passenger opts for Tatkal at the time of booking only. This will help to avoid queue later. This option should be provided as soon as the WL tickets are being issued. It should be clearly reported on the ticket both normal and Tatkal WL no. Before one day tatkal quota can open and based on the list of opted passengers it can be allocated automatically. If the passenger who opted for tatkal option cancels the ticket before opening of tatkal quota there shouldn`t be any refund of tatkal charges. Howver the current rules can work on remaioning tatkal wl tickets that if they cancel normal charges are deducted. Also while opening tatkal quota, railway should clearly display the no. of seats available in different quotas so that the traveller can take the decision promptly of cancelling or holding the ticket. Railway can keep few seats call ``Real Tatkal`` which should be allocated based on real evidences such as if a person has to travel for an organization then he/she should have the invitation letter from both to/from place. Or someone travelling on medical emergency should have the doctors certificate etc.....

Solution : changing the timings for the Tatkal ticket i.e 24 hours before the departure of train not from 8 AM
