Mumbai, July 04: A special court on Saturday convicted and sentenced Abdul Karim Telgi, kingpin of the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, to three years in jail for submitting forged documents to procure a passport in 2001.

Telgi, who had pleaded guilty in the case, was today convicted by special CBI judge Chitra Bedi.

According to the prosecution, Telgi had in 2001 submitted various documents at the regional passport office in Mumbai to procure a passport.

However, after completing the procedure, Telgi never collected the passport. When the passport office learnt that the documents submitted by Telgi were forged, a complaint was lodged against him.

Telgi was convicted in the case today under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Passport Act.
