New Delhi: Farmer leader Manveer Singh
Teotia, who had led the agitation against land acquisition in
Bhatta Parsaul in Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed as the
working president of JD(U)`s Kisan cell.
Teotia`s name was cleared by party president Sharad Yadav
to head the cell recently, a party statement said here.
"JD (U) president Sharad Yadav has appointed Manveer Singh
Teotia as the working president of Kisan Cell of the party," a
the statement said.
Teotia is under judicial custody in Dasna jail. He was
arrested in July on several charges including instigating
farmers for violent agitation which led to death of four
persons during the stir.
Hailing from a family of agriculturists in Bulandshehar,
Teotia grabbed limelight for leading farmers` agitation in
Noida and Greater Noida.
He was also involved in agitation by farmers in Tappal
close to Aligarh. His family has been demanding withdrawal of
all criminal charges against him claiming that he has been
framed by the state government.
