Bhopal: The railway police on Thursday recovered Rs 10 lakhs from under the berth on which Member of Parliament Sandeep Dikshit travelled from Delhi to Jhansi on the Bhopal Express.
As per reports, Dikshit and his wife were booked in AC1 coach of the Bhopal Express, which left Hazrat Nizamuddin yesterday evening. He travelled in the train till Jhansi.
The train reached Habibganj station in Bhopal today morning and was taken to the yard for cleaning, where one cleaner identified as Bhagwan Das saw an unattended bag below a berth in the AC1 coach. He took the bag to the rail authorities who made the startling discovery that the bag contained Rs 10 lakhs in hard cash.
On further investigations it was found that the berth under which the bag was found was booked in Sandip and his wife’s name.
When he was contacted, he told the railway police that the bag belonged to his friend Jayesh Mathur who was travelling in another coach of the train and left it with him for safety reasons.
Mathur has accepted that the money belonged to him and that he was carrying it as payment for some investment he had made in Bhopal.
Dikshit said he forgot to hand over the bag back to his friend when he alighted at Jhansi. But what about Mathur, did he also forget about his money?
