Dhaka: Favouring enhanced Dhaka-New Delhi cooperation to address bilateral security concerns, a leading Bangladeshi think tank has said effective management of a "security regime" was crucial for good relations between the two neighbours.
"Effectively managing a security regime is important not only for countering terrorism but also for maintaining and underpinning a secure atmosphere in relations between the two countries," Bangladesh Institute for Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) said in a special report published today.
The report, which came three days ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s three-day India tour, said "security is likely to be the most prominent item on India`s agenda for this
meeting. However, the security concerns of Bangladesh are required to be adequately highlighted".
In the interest of a strong bilateral relationship, while it is important for Bangladesh to understand and address India`s security concerns, it is also imperative for India to
reciprocate, it said.
Officials said security and terrorism issue was expected to be a prime agenda during Hasina`s talks with her counterpart Manmohan Singh while the two countries were likely to ink a deal on countering the menace.
Hasina in her election manifesto suggested formation of a South Asian task force to fight militancy.
