Three-day Indian priests` congress begins today in TN

More than 1,000 priests from over 100 dioceses across India have arrived at Vailankanni in Nagapattinam district to take part in the three-day Indian Priests` Congress, beginning there Tuesday.

The event has been organised by the `Commission for Priests of the Conference for Catholic Bishops in India` to mark the `Year of Priests`.

John Kuzhandhai, Commission secretary, said the Congress would be inaugurated by the Prefect of the Congregation for Clergy, Claudio Cardinal Hummes.

He said the Congress aims to reflect on priesthood and to "spiritually empower" priests. Various themes like the faithfulness and fidelity of Christ, fidelity of priests and challenges faced in priestly life would be among the topics discussed, he said.

Founder of Art of Living Foundation Sri Sri Ravishankar and Union Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma will be special invitees.
