New Delhi/Chennai: Slain LTTE chief V
Prabhakaran's mother Parvathi Ammal should be allowed to enter
Tamil Nadu for medical treatment if she accepts certain
conditions like getting treated at a hospital selected by the
state, the Tamil Nadu Government has told the Centre.
In a letter to the Centre, the state government has said
Parvathi Ammal, who was last month deported by immigration
officials to Malaysia from Chennai immediately on landing, be
allowed to enter if she accepts certain conditions.
"The conditions are: She should undergo treatment in the
hospital selected by the Tamil Nadu Government and the
treatment cost will be borne by the government and that she
should take necessary security cover," Chief Minister M
Karunanidhi told reporters in New Delhi.
"These are not stringent conditions... if she accepts
these conditions then the Centre can be asked to allow her,"
he said.
The state government has also written to Union Home
Secretary G K Pillai in this regard.
Karunanidhi said the state government will also give its
reply to Madras High Court which is hearing a case relating to
Parvathi Ammal's treatment.
In Chennai, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin informed
the Assembly "We have written to the Union Home Secretary to
consider allowing Parvathi Ammal for treatment in the state
provided certain conditions are met".
"We received an e-mail from Parvathi Ammal requesting us
to allow her to come to Tiruchirappalli for treatment", Stalin
said.
He recalled Karunanidhi's assurance in the Assembly last
month that the state government would write to the Centre on
allowing her to undergo treatment in Tamil Nadu, if she
insists on it.
However, when political parties had raised the issue (of
her deportation) in the Assembly, Karunanidhi said he was not
aware of her visit.
