New Delhi: Following is the chronology of major train accidents since 2002:

January 5, 2002: 21 killed and 41 injured when Secundarabad-Manmad express train rammed into a stationary goods train at Ghatnandur station in Maharashtra.

March 23, 2002: Seven injured when 13 bogies of Lokmanya Tilak Superfast Express from Patna to Mumbai derailed near Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh.

May 15, 2003: Thirty eight people, including women and children, were killed and 13 injured when three coaches of Amritsar-bound Frontier Mail caught fire.

June 22, 2003: 53 were killed and 25 injured when Karwar-Mumbai Central Holiday Special train derailed after crossing Vaibhavwadi Station in Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra.

July 2, 2003: A train engine and two adjoining coaches fell off a bridge in Warangal, killing 18 people.

September 9, 2002: 100 passengers were killed and 150 hurt when a bogie of Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani Express plunged into Dhave river in Bihar's Aurangabad district.

February 27, 2004: 30 people killed when Guwahati-bound Kanchenjunga Express rammed into a truck at an unmanned level-crossing in West Bengal's Dinajpur district.

December 15, 2004: 34 persons, including 11 women, died and about 50 injured when Ahmedabad-bound Jammu Tawi Express collided head-on with a local train about 40 km from Jalandhar in Punjab.

August 18, 2006: Two carriages caught fire on Chennai-Hyderabad Express near Secundrabad railway station.

November 9, 2006: About 40 died and 15 injured in a West Bengal rail accident.

December 1, 2006: A portion of 150-year-old bridge being dismantled collapsed over a passing train in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, killing 35 and injuring 17.

February 13, 2009: Twelve carriages of Coromandel Express derailed near Jajpur Road station in Orissa.

In August 1995, over 250 people were killed when Purushottam Express and Kalindi Express collided near Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

Nuclear weapon nation, reached Moon, Fastest growing economy !!!!!! Whats being done for those over 70% of Indian population , which is concerned only about a clean and safe infrastructure? Our railway , the biggest goverment department provinding maximum jobs,, is shame on nation today. Why cant we have a strictly followed safety regulation chart for our roads, railways, waterways and airways. Reaching Moon just to show the world is not the need...we need to make our public safe here on earth first..

Indian Citizens will go to death bed for non maintennance and properly trained staff to handle signals operation. sorry to say last time i went from Bangalore to Kerala in a intercity day train, my experience was terrific in reserved compartment. There were plenty of cockroaches, bedbugs, even big rats.. people were afraid in side the compartment. is this the way to function ?. I feel the politicians handling this ministry should travel out side world to know how to keep up and maintain railways instead. Its pathetic and pity the condition of Indian railways , nobody to take responsibility and proper application of Safety standards. we mourn the death for couple of days for the people died and after some days back to normal. we as citizens of India should wake up and teach lessons to this corrupted ministers and staff of Indian Railways. Unless we do this we will be expecting more deaths to come. wake up all youg citizens do some thing for this.
