New Delhi: Union Minister Kumari Selja on Saturday said government would emphasise on transparency in the ambitious Rajiv Awas Yojana with concurrent evaluation and monitoring systems to make sure that the real beneficiaries of
the scheme are the poor and slum dwellers.
Faced with corruption charges in the Commonwealth Games, 2G spectrum allocation and other projects, the government wants this housing scheme to be clean.
"We are proposing concurrent evaluation and monitoring system to make sure that real beneficiary of the scheme(Rajiv Awas Yojana) are the poor and slum dwellers," Selja, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, told a news agency.
"The best thing is that it will be led by the people themselves. It will be monitored by the people... Everybody is invited to join in and I agree this has to really be one of the most transparent systems in the country," she added.
She was speaking on the sidelines of a Conference of State Ministers of Housing, Urban Development, Municipal Affairs/Local Self Government on Rajiv Awas Yojna(RAY) here.
The minister said the vision of the government is to make India a slum free country and that it is following a two-pronged strategy by developing existing slums and providing affordable houses to the weaker sections of the society through Rajiv Awas Yojna.
"Rajiv Awas Yojana will be executed as a partnership between the communities, industries, financing institutions, cities, state governments and the government of India to ensure its success," she said.
