Two-third of undertrial cases to be disposed off by July: Moily

Noida: By July, two third of undertrial cases will be disposed off under the National Consultation on Second Generation of Legal Reforms and an exercise has begun to bring comprehensive reforms in the judiciary, Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily said on Friday.

"Very soon, the Bill of 1965 will be replaced by Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill by April?May, 2010, Moily said during a programme at the Amity University here today evening.

Moily said fast track courts will be created to hold speedy hearing of undertrail cases within a maximum period of six months and for women and children, the government is proposing to amend the Act and dispose cases within 6 months to one year.

Responding to the query regarding the high number of pending cases in Allahabad Court and the need to have more than one bench for UP, Moily said the Ministry has decided to constitute a committee which will look into the creation of benches within six months.

He also said the government had a proposal to start collaborations with National Judiciary Service and recruit judges on the lines of administrative services.
