United Nations: The United Nations has
condemned the death of Indian journalist Vijay Pratap Singh
who succumbed to injuries received in a bomb attack outside a
state minister`s home in Allahabad this month.

"Freedom of expression, a fundamental human right
essential to a democratic society, can only exist if
journalists can do their work in safety," said Irina Bokova,
Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Bokova asked the Indian authorities to do everything
to bring the culprits of this attack to justice, and to ensure
there is no impunity.

Singh, 38, worked for the Indian Express. He was
injured in a bomb blast outside Uttar Pradesh Minister Nand
Gopal Nandi`s house in Allahabad on July 12 and later
succumbed to his injuries.

He had just stepped out of the official`s residence
when a bomb was detonated, wounding seven people, including
Nand Gopal Nandi, the state`s Institutional Finance Minister.
