Union cabinet to discuss seven new IIMs

The proposal to set up seven new IIMs in the country will be considered by the union cabinet tomorrow with the HRD Ministry sending the proposal to it for its approval.

New Delhi: The proposal to set up seven
new IIMs in the country will be considered by the union
cabinet tomorrow with the HRD Ministry sending the proposal to
it for its approval.
Under the XIth Five-Year Plan, government proposed to
set up seven new Indian Institutes of Management in Tamil
Nadu, Chhatisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and
Uttarakhand and Meghalaya.

"The HRD Minister has prepared the proposal for the
setting up of these IIMs, which will be discussed by the
cabinet tomorrow," informed sources said.

The Ministry had last week called for applications for
the posts of directors to the proposed four IIMs in Raipur,
Rohtak, Ranchi and Thiruchirapalli.

The IIMs are expected to start functioning from he
academic year of 2010. The institutes are part of the
government`s efforts to boost the higher and technical
education in the country.
