UP CM takes dig at PM Narendra Modi over bypoll loss

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the BJP's poor showing in the Assembly bypolls in the state.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the BJP's poor showing in the Assembly bypolls in the state.

Ostensibly referring to the pictures of Modi and visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping sitting on a swing at the Sabarmati riverfront, Yadav quipped "achche din ayenge...Abhi to jhoola jhool rahe hain (good days will come...As of now they are taking a swing ride)."

"Therefore, I will not say anything on achche din as of now," Yadav said in his address during a programme here.

Later, in an informal interaction with media, Yadav recalled that Modi had promised to make the country's borders safe and expressed hope that both India and China would address this issue, besides trade and other matters of importance.

To a question on the bypoll results the UP CM said "our democracy is unique...Although people here may not be very educated, when it is time to take decisions they show great wisdom."

Yadav said though for the political people, win and defeat were part and parcel of their work, but they have importance for the people.
