Mainpuri: Describing China as the biggest
threat to the country, Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh
Yadav on Saturday slammed the UPA for being a "silent spectator" to
alleged Chinese encroachment of Indian territory.
"China has encroached upon Indian land and is staking
claim over areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh but
the UPA government instead of taking up the issue with the
neighbour and repudiating its claims, has remained a silent
spectator," Yadav, a former defence minister, said addressing
a function at SBRL Vaishya Academy here.
Terming China as the biggest threat to the country, he
asked the central govenrment to take steps to preserve the
country`s territory.
He said the dam being constructed on the Brahmaputra by
China would adversely affect water availabilty on this side.
Referring to the "clean-up" drive launched by the BSP
against criminal elements, Yadav said no action has been taken
against almost fifty per cent of the ministers with such a
background who have been gathering money through unfair means.
Reiterating that the Women`s Reservation Bill in its
present form would not serve the purpose, he demanded separate
quota for SCs and backwards in the legislation.
"If the government is really interested in the uplift
of women they should reserve 50 per cent seats for girls in
technical institutions", Yadav said.
