UPA misguiding people on coalgate: BJP Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: A day after the UPA government accused the BJP of unwillingness on its part to let Parliament function, the main opposition party hit back on Saturday accusing the ruling establishment of misguiding the nation on the coal block allocation issue.

The UPA government’s strategy is to misguide the people, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley told a press conference, adding the same happened during the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

“The UPA tried to misguide then also with its zero loss theory,” Jaitley said, adding “(Finance Minister P) Chidambaram hasn’t learnt a lesson from his colleague Kapil Sibal’s mistake”.

“I don’t think Chidambaram will be able to mislead the people, except himself,” he added.

Chidambaram, along with Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal and Law Minister Salman Khurshid, had said at a press conference yesterday that “if the coal is not mined and stays under mother earth, then where is the loss”.

To this, Jaitley countered by saying “when the coal blocks are allotted, the right to mine shifts and it now vests with 142 private allottees and not with the Government of India”.

“The coal under mother earth now does not belong to Mr Chidambaram,” the BJP leader added sarcastically.

“There’s a huge opportunity cost to the Government of India. The opportunity that the government could have exploited now rests with private players.”

“I am afraid to say Mr Chidambaram is not the best custodian of the public exchequer,” Jaitley said.

“If somebody were to embezzle money from Chidambaram's account, by the minister's logic he would not have lost the money till that person withdraws money from his personal account even after money have been transferred from the minister's account,” Jaitley said, countering the Finance Minister’s no loss argument.

It’s a fragile logic, he said.

Stating the UPA was losing confidence of the people, Jaitley said with this performance the UPA’s continuance is a zero sum game for themselves.

ACCADEMIC DEBATE IS REQUIRED RATHER THEN POLICAL DEBATE ON OUR ONGOING PUBLIC POLICY ON MINING INCLUDING THAT OF COAL AND NOT THIS ACRIMONY WHICH ARE ALWAYS MADE SO PREDICTRABLE BY ITS LEADERS- ARUN JAITLEY & KAPIL SIBAL YET NOT SO EFFECTIVE LIKE ANNA JI & BABA RAMDEV .THE NATION UNDERSTANDS THAT THERE IS URGENCY WITH TO BALANCE THE 2G VERDICTS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN & POLITICIANS & SOME SO CALLED ACTIVISTS ARE ONLY PROOVING THAT COALGATE IS WHERE THEIR TEETH IS.

The Coal-gate is the Prime-scam in the cabinate of scams. The telecom-scam, commonwealth-scam ...were subordinate scams. Koyla Nikala Nahin, Yaa Voh dala nahin, lekin booking hua matalab gunah kiya

I think Shree Jaitley said is very correct, why GHOTALA is happening when in hand of Shree Manmohansinh. We all are under worries what will happen of our country? Our Prime Minister have moral, he must resign that whatever discussion will come out from basket.

Whatever is said and done, there is no reason for PM of the country to resign as long as he enjoys the support of the majority of the MPs. Auctioning or not auctioning is a policy decision taken by each respective Governments and there is no individual responsibility. Even BJP ruled the country and they have also been allocating coal mines in the same fashion. Why are they are making hue and cry now, just because to gain some electoral gains by fooling the people. Instead of debating the matter in detail in the parliament, BJP men are interested in going to the Media. So, its clearly a publicity stunt. Voters eventually will discard both these national parties – Congress and BJP and go for regional party !

What will happen if goverment auction the coal block.Certainly goverment will earn some money, but who will ultimately be charged. The end products using Coal as fuel like Steel, other metals and Power will be costlier. This will trigen inflation further when people are already realing under inflation and price rise.

BJP is misguiding people instead! It`s a case of kettle calling pot black. Sukhram, who started telecom scam was an ally of BJP, other corrupt man, Shibu Soren, is BJP`s ally in Jharkahand. Babu Kuswaha, the person who is involved in NHRM scam was memebr of BJP in UP, to name a few.
