Pittsburgh: The European Commission on Thursday
said there is a need to make US-EU relationship more
outward-looking by expanding its ties with countries like
India, China, Brazil and Russia.

Calling for a new "Atlantic Agenda for Globalisation",
European Commission president Jose Manuel Durao Barroso
stressed on the need for a reinforced EU-US partnership based
on a new agenda by re-invigorating the Euro-American economic
and political relationship.

In a speech at the University of Pittsburgh, he also
asked to make US-EU relationship more outward-looking by
expanding its ties with countries like India, China, Brazil
and Russia.

Barroso called for reforming the architecture of
international co-operation, joining the efforts to mitigate
climate change while achieving greater energy security and
defending and reinforcing an open, rules-based and
multilateral trading system.

The reforms could also be done by making further
progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals,
and launching a comprehensive review of respective EU and US
efforts to secure international peace and security, he said.

"We want to engage the US in such an agenda, starting
at the upcoming EU/US Summit in Washington in early November,"
he said.
