London: British police are investigating an incident in which a bench installed in the town of Middlesbrough in northeast England in memory of Ashok Kumar, an Indian-origin Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) who died in 2010, was set alight.
The memorial bench, which was placed at Stewart Park in the town in Yorkshire county in 2012 in honour of the Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP, was found torched Dec 7.
Middlesbrough Council said the bench would be replaced very soon, BBC reported Tuesday.
Cleveland police said two teenagers arrested in connection with the case have been released.
Tom Blenkinsopp, who succeeded Kumar in the parliamentary seat, said Stewart Park was one of the places where the late MP enjoyed spending time in.
"It was one of two places he would often go to get some time away from the hustle and bustle of it all," Blenkinsopp was quoted as saying.
Kumar represented Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland from 1997 till his death in 2010 at the age of 53.
