Kolkata: Questioning another term for Sonia
Gandhi as Congress president, senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu
today asked whether the post was reserved for a single family.
"It is the prerogative of a party to choose its own
president. But, is the post reserved for a single family? The
issue is not the question of an individual," Naidu told
newsmen after addressing a training camp for BJP leaders here.
Sonia Gandhi is set to be re-elected unopposed as the
Congress President for the fourth consecutive term.
Stating that former BJP presidents Atal Bihari Vajpayee
and L K Advani had set a healthy tradition by not remaining in
the post for more than two terms, he asked, "will the 125-year
old Congress follow a similar tradition?"
Although the BJP has relations with the RSS, the policies
and programmes of the party are not decided by the RSS which
is only a cultural organisation, Naidu said.
Earlier, addressing the training camp, the former BJP
president said that after Independence, Mahatma Gandhi had
advised Congress leaders to disband the party as the goal of
the country`s freedom had been achieved.
"But Congress never cared for Gandhiji`s advice. They
want to exploit the name of the party. The Congress of today
has nothing to do with the party that led the Freedom
Movement," Naidu alleged.
