Verdict an opportunity for Muslims to reach out: Justice Khan Lucknow: The Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid verdict has given Indian Muslims the best opportunity to spread to the world the teachings of Islam, Justice S U Khan of the Allahabad High Court has said.

Noting that Muslims here have been rulers of the land, also being ruled over and currently share power, Justice Khan said Indian Muslims are in the best position to spread the teachings of Islam in the present time.

"They (Indian Muslims) are not in majority but they are also not a negligible minority. In other countries either the Muslims are in huge majority which makes them indifferent to the problem in question or in negligible minority which makes them redundant," he said in the epilogue of his 285-page judgement on the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute.

He said Muslims must also ponder that at present the entire world wants to know the exact teachings of Islam in respect of relationship of Muslims with others.

"Indian Muslims have also inherited huge legacy of religious learning and knowledge. They are, therefore, in the best position to tell the world the correct position. Let them start with their role in the resolution of the conflict at hand," he noted.

'A small piece of land where angels fear to tread'

"Here is a small piece of land where angels fear to tread...It is full of innumerable landmines".

This is how Justice Sibghat Ullah Khan described the Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Masjid dispute in a prelude to his judgement and likened it to a 1,500-sq yard minefield which he and his brother judges had to clear.

"Here is a small piece of land (1,500 square yards) where angels fear to tread. It is full of innumerable landmines. We are required to clear it."

"Some very sane elements advised us not to attempt that. We do not propose to rush in like fools lest we are blown. However, we have to take risk. It is said that the greatest risk in life is not daring to take risk when the occasion for the same arises," he wrote.

The judgement yesterday that ran into 285 pages says that judges cannot decide whether they had succeeded or failed in their attempts.

"Once angels were made to bow before man. Sometimes he has to justify the said honour. This is one of those occasions. We have succeeded or failed? No one can be a judge in his own cause," he said.

The Prelude concludes with: "... herein follows the judgement for which the entire country is waiting with bated breath."

indians should be happy as peace was witnessed after the verdict opposite to wrongly anticipated violence!!seems like indian people are grown up in 2 decades!!
would politicians learn from justice khan and indian public and realise what is the need of present and future!!
it does not matter if mandir is built or masjid or mandir and masjid both, what matters is peace and development of a great nation, ``the developed india`` ``the world power india``. so that indian brain does not need to go to other countries for oppertunities.

i read the short version of his verdict. it was the simple truth of this story. there was a ruined temple and mogul ruler built a mosque. whether, you can change history for something that had happened over 500 years, i simply do not believe it is possible. is it the birth place of ram?? again i do not think epics can be proved. it is a belief and faith that have to be accept without scientific thinking.

the truth is that we have to move on from 1992. make sure it never happen again and in india, we have more sensible things to worry about for our future generations. please stop spending this hard earned tax payer’s money on chasing this wind of babri.....leave it and let bygones be bygones.

look in to the future and walk past the painful memories!

justice khan, goes ahead of dispute and put india at first, these words will remain as historical as the verdict:

“my judgment is short, very short. either i may be admired as an artist who knows where to stop, particularly in such sensitive, delicate matter or i may be castigated for being so casual in such a momentous task.``

“as this judgment is not finally deciding the matter and as the most crucial stage is to come after it is decided by the supreme court, i remind both the warring factions of the following. the one quality which epitomised the character of ram is tyag [sacrifice].``

“when prophet mohammad entered into a treaty with the rival group at hudayliyah, it appeared to be abject surrender even to his staunch supporters.``

“however the koran described that as clear victory and it did prove so. within a short span therefrom muslims entered the mecca as victors, and not a drop of blood was shed.``

“under the sub-heading of demolition, i have admired our resilience. however we must realise that such things do not happen in quick succession. another fall and we may not be able to rise again, at least quickly. today the pace of the world is faster than it was in 1992. we may be crushed.``

i don`t know weather it is political pressure statement or personal.. but it is not proper jugement for sure even other seniors edvts. views.

i suggest muslims even we should not take that small pic of land which is alloted by court and we should build same structual of mosques in each captial cities to proove that allah is everywhere and we worship from anywhere.

whatever little excerpts that the media has informed goes to show that justice khan has given an insgight to the problem. the owrdings of the judgement makes it a good reading and of substance. trust all the parties see reason and abide by it.
