New Delhi: Lauding anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare's efforts, VHP on Saturday said his fast unto death had compelled the government to constitute a Joint Committee of ministers and civil society activists to draft an effective Lokpal Bill.

"We laud Hazare's effort to fight corruption. it has made the government reconsider the Lokpal Bill. This is also the victory of our countrymen's determination", senior VHP leader Surendra Jain said here.

He was speaking at a workshop on 'challenges in samvatsar 2068', wherein, he spoke about issues like the Ram Temple construction, corruption and terrorism.

Concerning the key goals before the organisation in samvatsar 2068, observed as the beginning of the Hindu New Year (Navsamvotsav), the VHP central secretary said that activists should work towards building the Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

"Now that the way is almost clear to build the temple, all activists must work towards its construction. This is the main agenda of the VHP", Jain said.

The organisation plans to mobilise support in Parliament for the enactment of the legislation in favour of the temple.

The VHP also vowed to fight corruption tooth and nail by pledging its support to any organisation that fights for the cause of people, Jain said, adding that the organisation would also have awareness drives, telling people to speak out against irregularities and bribe seeking officials in their localities.

"The other challenge that the nation faces is terrorism and we denounce that the government has failed to tackle it effectively. Its failure to hang Afzal Guru, convicted in the Parliament attack case is an example of this", he said.

The organisation also accused the govenrment of being "soft" on separatist leaders from Jammu and Kashmir and said no action was taken against them when they spoke against the government while in New Delhi.

"Separtist leaders go scot free even after they make anti-national utterances in public. Whereas, Hindu leaders and saints are put behind bars for being nationalists", the VHP leader alleged.
